Bayramören in Çankiri is the oldest district in Turkey.

Most of them are very small districts located in mountainous regions in the central-north. These are the big villages that young people have left and there are no young couples to have children. If the district governorship was abolished and civil servants left the district, some of them have a population that would not even be a town. Interestingly, most of them are in forest areas.

Adalar in Istanbul, Güdül in Ankara, Karaburun in Izmir are the oldest districts.
